The photos are me and the plaza photo I took is the Santo Domingo Plaza of the Santo Domingo church, second oldest in the capital Quito, Ecuador and the hub of activity in the old part of Quito. This is the Ecuador Andes highlands. The Virgin of Quito in the background stands at about 9,800 feet altitude. If I am not employed in a NYS Civil Service job by Spring 2008 I will return to Ecuador for continuing research on osteoporosis.

The city was Lago Agrio Capital of the Ecuador Amazon which is frequently called the petrol amazon because of it's abundant oil reserves. It is the home of the Shuar and the Jivaro in terms of native indians. None of the Farmacias carry Lariam much highly recommended, at affordable cost in the U.S. for both malaria prevention and malaria treatment. Instead all Farmacias limit their stock to Fansidar, at considerable less cost than Lariam, and approximately as effective in prevention and treatment but which U.S. doctors believe has side effects to be avoided. You should bring your Lariam medicine with you from the U.S. if you do not want to use Fansidar. I ran into a problem in April of this year 2007 in Quito as I needed to use the National Library on the subject of osteoporosis and gain whatever other help they could offer as where in the city and nation to research my subject but it was closed when I arrived undergoing redecoration. Although I was told it was supposed to reopen later in the month of April it never did. Three days in April after I arrived in Quito there was the Ecuador national presidential election and I suspect the redocorating crew was diverted to government office buildings. They had ceased working on the library.
