This was a Rennsalaerwick case signed before the notary July 7,
1664, where Philip Hendricxsz owned a farm field along the Mohawk river at Schenectady and a number of times, this time hunting
ducks, found Claes Swits ploughing it at order of William Teller of Albany (The Albany fort commissary this writer's
grandfather many generations back on his mother's side). This time Claes Swits would not listen to Hendricxsz and
continued on with the ploughing. Hendricxsz told him he would shoot him in the buttocks with duck shot if he did not remove
the plow from his land, but Claes Swits did not, whereupon Hendricxsz shot him in the buttocks with duck shot not
intending to cause serious injury, but nevertheless Claes Swits died three or four hours later from the wound but first forgiving
Hendricxsz. It was the opinion of the Claes Swits family the death should be forgiven.
Jan Labatie was the husband and guardian of Jillissie (the former wife of Harmen Meyndertse van den Bogaert) and Jan
Labatie's signature towards forgiveness appears on the record as witness as does the signature of Jacob Schermerhorn
as witness, Jacob Schermerhorn not of the Swits family. Also the signature of the deceased Claes Swits cousins Francois
Bogaert and Myndert Bogaert sons of Harmen Bogaert (their stepfather Jan Labatie) appear towards forgiveness. Isacc Swits
brother of Claes was for forgiveness signing with an Mark, as was Adriantie Swits mother signing with a Mark. Matthew
Abrahamsz, not of the Switts family, witnessed signing with a Mark. Jillissie Claes Labatie (former wife of Harmen Bogaert)
is mentioned as the full aunt of Claes Swits, deceased. Thus as her mother is Adrantie Swits the full name of Jillissie
before any marriage was Jillissie Claes Swits.
